Counselling and Advocacy for Victims of Sexual Assault Since 1991

Sexual assault is a serious, pervasive crime in our community. Conservative statistics document that 1 in 3 Canadian girls, and 1 and 5 Canadian boys, will be sexually assaulted at some time in their lives. The deeply wounding effects of sexual assault ripple through our society, taking a toll on physical and mental health and family life, and affecting an inner sense of well-being.

"Be a voice where there is no voice, 1 found my voice"

Services for men and women (separately)

For over two decades, the Sexual Assault Centre for Quinte & District has been providing counselling and advocacy services to both men and women in Hastings and Prince Edward Counties who have been victims of sexual assault. Each year, the SACQD helps hundreds of clients deal with the devastating effects of sexual assault. Through its 24-hour crisis line, "Safe Place" drop-in, individual counselling and support groups, SACQD staff and volunteers reach out to the victims and their families.

NOW SERVING ALL OF ONTARIO

Sexual Assault Centre for Quinte & District serves Hastings and Prince Edward Counties, through locations in Belleville, Trenton, Picton and Bancroft. SACQD now offers its Paths of Courage Program to male and female survivors across Ontario. Programs are provided by both male and female facilitators.

Now offering a few program that provides sexual assault survivors with even more opportunity to heal, transform and become empowered. "Paths of Courage" includes four paths, the concept of utilizing the four paths of healing developed out of the vision of a holistic approach to sexual abuse healing.

The 4 paths are:

1. Path of Physical Well Being 2. Path of Emotional Balance
3. The Path of Re-thinking 4. The Path of Spiritual Connections

It's a one of a kind program, pioneered by SACQD. The intent through Paths of Courage is to provide survivors with safe opportunities to make the healing journey from the after-effects of sexual violence to self-awareness and Wholeness.

It is a unique program that offers sustained, intensive therapeutic counselling in a safe, healing residential environment. In a peaceful setting, close to nature, the program combines highly effective confidence and trust building techniques with well-established psychological counselling modalities.

"I was inspired by the inner courage it takes for a soul to become released from the darkness called fear."

"Sharing my feelings of isolation, shame, fear, and pain with my group was the best thing that has ever happened to me."

A New Approach to Healing

Participants in the Paths of Courage Program have time to relax and recharge, without the pressure and distractions of everyday life. For many, it will be the first time they will be free to focus on themselves, reach out to others with similar experiences, and develop the strength and momentum they need to heal.

Sexual assault survivors participate in extended-stay retreats at Paths of Courage Healing and Retreat Centre that nurture both body and soul.

"If it was not for this program, I'm not sure where I would be today. They helped me to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Even though there are many bumps and roller coasters, we will overcome to get there."
